Karnataka is South India's most diverse travel destination — a state where ancient empires left their ruins in boulder-strewn landscapes, where coffee grows in misty hill forests, and where Wodeyar maharajas built palaces that rival anything in Rajasthan. A 6-day Karnataka tour with Safaar takes you through three of the state's most compelling destinations: the coffee country of Coorg, the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Hampi, and the royal magnificence of Mysore.
Starting from Bangalore (Karnataka's capital and India's aviation hub), this itinerary covers the Western Ghats' richest coffee-growing district, the Vijayanagara Empire's ancient capital, and a city whose Dasara celebration is rated one of India's top ten cultural events. The journey is designed for families, culture lovers, nature enthusiasts, and travellers seeking an alternative to the over-covered tourist routes of Rajasthan and Kerala.
Best season to visit Karnataka: October to March offers pleasant weather across the state. The Mysore Dasara (October, Vijayadashami) is one of India's most spectacular festivals. Coorg receives heavy monsoon from June to September — beautiful but wet. Hampi is best avoided in peak summer (April–May) when temperatures exceed 40°C.
Karnataka is India's sixth-largest state by area and one of its most economically and culturally significant. It borders Goa and Maharashtra to the north, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to the east, Tamil Nadu to the south, and Kerala to the southwest. The state's western coast along the Arabian Sea includes the historic port of Mangalore and the UNESCO-listed Goa border temples.
Karnataka's history spans the Kadamba dynasty (345 CE) through the Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara Empire (1336–1646 CE), the Nizam of Hyderabad, Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan's Mysore kingdom, and British colonial administration. Each era left monuments that continue to draw travellers: Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebidu, Vijayanagara ruins at Hampi, Tipu's Summer Palace in Srirangapatna, and the Wadiyar Palace in Mysore.
For travellers from Mumbai, Karnataka is one of the most accessible South Indian destinations — Bangalore is a 1.5-hour flight or a 20-hour overnight train journey. Safaar operates customised Karnataka tour packages for families, couples, and groups throughout the year, including a Dasara special package around the Mysore festival in October.
Both are excellent but different experiences. Coorg is wilder, less commercialised, and famous for coffee estates and Coorgi culture — ideal for travellers who want a nature immersion without crowds. Ooty (Tamil Nadu) has more infrastructure, the Nilgiri toy train, and better connectivity. For travellers from Mumbai wanting something off the beaten path, Coorg consistently delivers a more authentic experience.
Hampi has over 4,000 monuments spread across 26 sq km — it cannot be fully explored in one day. Our itinerary allocates a full day to Hampi's highlights (Sacred Centre, Royal Enclosure, and Vitthala Complex). Serious history and photography enthusiasts should consider 2 nights in Hampi. Safaar can customise the Karnataka itinerary to extend the Hampi stay if needed.
Yes — this is one of Safaar's most senior-friendly routes. All three destinations have good road access, no altitude concerns, and numerous comfortable hotels. Hampi involves some walking on uneven temple grounds — sturdy footwear is recommended. Coorg and Mysore are fully accessible for seniors. We can arrange ground-floor hotel rooms and additional assistance on request.
Mysore Palace is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Sunday evening illumination (97,000 bulbs, 7:00–7:45 PM) is the most spectacular time to visit — plan your Mysore arrival on a Saturday or Sunday to catch this. During Dasara (October, Vijayadashami), the palace hosts nightly illumination and a grand procession — book well in advance as accommodation fills up months ahead.
Absolutely. Coorg to Goa is approximately 320 km (6 hours) — an easy extension. Safaar can create a combined Karnataka + Goa package covering Coorg, Hampi, Mysore, and Goa in 9–10 days. Contact us with your travel dates and we will design a customised itinerary.
