A historic site that is home to two massive rock-cut temples located in the village of Abu Simbel, Upper Egypt, Abu Simbel is located on the western bank of Lake Nasser. UNESCO has declared this complex the World Site that runs from Abu Simbel downriver to Philae and includes some of the Nubian sites. The twin temples were originally excavated from the mountainside in the 13th century B.C. Relocation of this complex took place in the year 1968 under the supervision of an archeologist of Polish origin Kazimier Michalowski (The Polish Center of Mediterranean Archaeology University of Warsaw, Poland.
